BOSTON — A man is running the Boston Marathon Monday in honor of his late fiancé, Wendy Martinez, 35, who was killed while training for the marathon last year in Logan Circle.
“It’s been several weeks of preparation," said Daniel Hincapie fully dressed in his racing gear. "This is the time. This is the moment.”
Over the last weeks, Hincapie has been overwhelmed with support from family and friends.
He is running in partnership with the Wendy Martinez Legacy Project — a newly formed charity to support women through running and technology; important attributes of Martinez.
The charity announced Sunday that 'Girls on the Run D.C.' will be the recipient of their first financial award of $6,000.
“Our partnership with GOTR-DC, which will teach girls to tap into their own strength and confidence through the sport [of running], is a fitting tribute to Wendy and a promise that her legacy will endure," said Hincapie.
