Homemade candles in 5 easy steps

Kid entrepreneurs and founders of Frères Branchiaux make candles in their kitchen. Here's their recipe for success!

The founders of Frères Branchiaux Candle Co., Collin, Ryan, and Austin Gill, operate a candle company from their home with the help of their parents. They create 100% natural soy scented candles, natural room sprays, diffusers, bath bombs, and fragrance bars.

Here's their recipe for success in five easy steps:

Step 1: Prepare candle tins

Wipe each tin with a paper towel to remove any dust or dirt. You can also put a warning label on the bottom of a sticker. After that, put the wick sticker on the wick itself and gently place the wick in candle tin.

Step 2: Melt wax using the microwave

Put about a pound of wax in a microwave safe container. Melt for four to five minutes—one minute at a time. Don't forget to be careful because the wax is hot! You should use pot holders to take out the melted wax. Pour 8 ounces of the melted wax into a glass measuring cup.

Step 3: Measure fragrance oil

The next step is to pour in about ½ oz of fragrance oil.

Step 4: Stir wax slowly for at least a minute

Set a timer and slowly stir the wax for a least one minute or more until it has a smooth texture.

Step 5: Pour wax into candle tin

Carefully pour the melted wax into a prepared tin to about 1/4 of a inch from the top of the tin. Place a clothespin or wick holder on the wick to hold it in place. Let the candle set for about 24 hours. After hardened, cut the wick. You can now light your homemade candle!

For best smell results, wait for three days for smell to cure in candle.

Frères Branchiaux Candle Co. donates 10% of their proceeds to D.C. homeless shelters. They say that with every candle that you buy, you are helping a homeless person in need. They eventually want to open a shop downtown where they can sell their products.
