In about two weeks, a busy D.C. hospital will unveil a major expansion.
Sibley Memorial Hospital, in Northwest DC, will celebrate the opening of its new patient tower.
Hospital leaders say the project cost $242 million. They added that it also took three years to build.
It is a 475,000 square foot facility that has numerous amenities.
The patient tower has 200-all private rooms with flat screen TVs and sleep sofas for patients' visitors.
Two floors are also dedicated to women and infants. The hospital expect 50 new postpartum rooms to help create a special birthing experience for expectant mothers.
"We are the busiest obstetrics hospital in D.C.," said Jerry Price, senior vice-president of Sibley Memorial Hospital. "And, the new hospital will allow us to go from 3,500 deliveries to 4,500 deliveries a year."
On top of that, right next to the tower, is the new Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center.
Cancer patients can now get care from Johns Hopkins faculty in D.C. The hospital says the center will likely be the site of groundbreaking clinical trials.
"We're very proud to see this come together," Price said.
The new patient tower also has new welcome center. It's attached to a lobby that the hospital says was designed to have a spacious feel.
"We wanted beautiful architecture and beautiful design," Price said. "We wanted people to say, 'this is not like any other hospital I've ever been in.'"
The patient tower is scheduled to open September 26.
