FREDERICK, Md. — Residents in Spring Ridge, Woodridge, and parts of Lake Linganore are being urged to take precautionary measures following a water main break on Spring Forest Road. The Frederick County Division of Water and Sewer Utilities announced a precautionary Boil Water Advisory due to a loss of water pressure that may lead to bacterial contamination.
Crews are currently working to repair the water main, but there is no estimated time for the restoration of service. Updates will be posted on the Frederick County website.
Why the advisory is necessary:
The loss of water pressure can allow contaminants to enter the water system through cracks, breaks, or joints in pipes. As a precaution, residents experiencing low water pressure or outages are advised to boil their water to ensure safety.
What you need to do:
Until the advisory is lifted, here's what impacted residents should do.
- Boil water for consumption: Bring all water used for drinking, food preparation, teeth brushing, and ice making to a rolling boil for at least one minute. Allow the water to cool before use.
- Avoid using unboiled ice: Dispose of any ice made from unboiled water and refrain from using it for drinking or food preparation.
- Bathing and washing: Water can be used for bathing and washing without boiling.
The Frederick County Division of Water and Sewer Utilities, along with the Frederick County Health Department and the Maryland Department of the Environment, is closely monitoring the water system. The advisory will remain in place until water service is fully restored and testing confirms the water is safe to drink. This process may take several days.
