'Grandma Virginia' McLaurin celebrates 110th birthday with DC Mayor Muriel Bowser

DC resident went viral after dancing with Obamas during White House visit

WASHINGTON — It's a very special day for D.C. resident Virginia McLaurin whose one birthday wish was granted Thursday morning.

McLaurin's one wish for her 110th birthday was to meet D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser. McLaurin was born in Cheraw, S.C., in 1909.

Bowser and Ward 4 Councilmember Brandon Todd hosted a birthday celebration for McLaurin with balloons and cake for everyone.

McLaurin gained national attention a few years ago when she visited and danced with President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama at the White House.

Michelle Obama even wished McLaurin a happy birthday on Instagram this year.

Since then McLaurin has had a few other birthday wishes granted, like the time she got to hang out with the Harlem Globetrotters on her 109th birthday.

She also spent her 107th birthday with the Washington Nationals where she danced on the field and even got her very own jersey.
