Gainesville shooting leaves one dead, another injured

An early morning shooting left one man dead, one seriously wounded, and another with minor injuries in Gainesville earlySaturday.

GAINESVILLE, Va. (WUSA9) -- An early morning shooting left one man dead, one seriously wounded, and another with minor injuries in Gainesville earlySaturday.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired in the area of Old Linton Hall Road and Charis Avenue. When they arrived, they found two adult male victims in a nearby parking lot suffering from gunshot wounds, according to police. They say both victims were transported to nearby hospitals where one victim, identified as Claude Lee Jackson III a 23-year-old man from Gainesville, later died at the hospital.

The second victim, identified as a 22-year-old Bristow man, is suffering from life-threatening injuries, according to police. While investigating, officers were approached by a third victim, identified as a 24-year-old Manassas man, suffering from a minor wounds to the hand, according to officials.

The suspect had left the scene prior to police arrival, according to the report, possibly in a light colored SUV. He is described as a black male, hair styled in dreadlocks, wearing a white shirt and sweatpants. Police have no other description at this time.

The incident was not random and had stemmed from a physical altercation just prior to the shooting all three victims were known to one another, according to detectives. The relationship between the shooting suspect and the victims is currently being investigated. The second seriously injured victim in this shooting is still hospitalized.

This homicide investigation has been classified as a murder.
