STAFFORD, Va. — The Stafford County School Board has announced a new interim superintendent.
During a Special Call Meeting on Tuesday, the school board unanimously voted to appoint Stafford, Virginia native Chris R. Fulmer as the acting superintendent.
"We have full faith and confidence that Mr. Fulmer will further the goals of Stafford Schools with dignity as the acting superintendent," said School Board Chair Maureen Siegmund.
This comes one day after Montgomery County Public Schools appointed Dr. Thomas Taylor as the new county superintendent, after a nationwide search to replace former Superintendent Dr. Monifa McKnight. McKnight resigned in February of this year.
Dr. Taylor spent the last six years serving as Stafford County Superintendent.
“Dr. Taylor is an experienced superintendent and a strong instructional leader,” said Karla Silvestre, president of the Montgomery County Board of Education. “I am confident he will work with students, staff, and the community to make MCPS a system where every child reaches their highest potential.”
Stafford County officials issued a statement following the news of Dr. Taylor’s new position Monday afternoon.
"Dr. Taylor has been an exceptional leader who has served the county and our students with distinction since November 2021. During his time with Stafford Schools, he oversaw significant advancements in staffing, salaries, and educational opportunities for all students. While Stafford County is losing an exceptional superintendent, we will move forward with the same commitment to our students and their preparation for excellence as we begin the search for our next superintendent. We thank Dr. Taylor for his leadership and wish him success in his future endeavors."
The Stafford County School Board also revised its 2025 Final Adopted Budget to make staffing compensation better during the Special Called Meeting. The revised budget includes an additional 1% increase for teacher salaries, bringing the pay raise to a total of 6.5% in 2025.
