FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — With less than two weeks until the first day of school, the largest school system in our area is searching for educators with a strong academic background.
In an effort to attract more teachers to classrooms, Fairfax County is launching a new teacher residency program.
The goal of the program and the brand-new teacher resident position is to get interested, qualified individuals with bachelor's degrees, working towards specific education certifications, into the classroom this year, according to a spokesperson for the district.
Fairfax County Public Schools is holding an in-person hiring event for people interested in the new position. The event takes place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Gatehouse Administration Center in Falls Church (8115 Gatehouse Road). There will also be a virtual option. Registration is required ahead of the event. More information can be found here.
School districts across the D.C. region have been dealing with teacher shortages ahead of the new school year.
