Police search for suspects in Southeast drive-by shooting injuring two kids

Officials say the community has a responsibility to take action when children's safety is put at risk.

WASHINGTON — Officials are asking for the public's help in trying to shed more light on the drive-by shooting over the weekend that hurt two children and injured a twenty year-old man in Southeast D.C.

"People who know something about this case are not being cooperative with the police," Mayor Muriel Bowser said on Monday.

Police say early Sunday morning a Sedan with tinted windows drove by a bus stop in the 800 block of Southern Avenue and opened fire.

According to the police report, a three year-old boy and a six year-old girl were hurt.

"Just as outraged as we are that children are exposed to this violence, and victim to this violence, the whole community needs to be outraged at what transpired. And everyone who knows something about the case needs to come forward," said Bowser.

Police identified the third victim as Duane Antione Rorie from Oxon Hill, Md.

According to police, all three victims were shot in the foot and taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. They have now been treated and released.

On Monday, officials revealed it appears the two children and Rorie are not related.

"The two children that were struck they were at the bus stop with another family member," said D.C. Police Chief

Police are still trying to figure out why the shooting happened, and who the perpetrators are.

"We’re not certain who target was in this incident but right now again we’re asking for the public’s assistance,"

Anyone with more information is urged to contact police at (202) 727-9099.
