WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The first group of twenty-three dogs who were rescued from meat farm in Seoul, Korea have arrived in the D.C. area Monday. The second group is expected to arrive Tuesday.
Officials with Humane Society International say groups in the area that will be caring for the dogs and helping to place them in adoptive homes include:
Animal Welfare League of Alexandria
Animal Welfare League of Arlington
Fairfax County Animal Shelter
Loudoun County Animal Services
City of Manassas Animal Control and Adoption Center
Washington Animal Rescue League.
Twelve of the dogs will arrive at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria on Monday. The rest of the dogs will arrive on Tuesday, say officials.
Officials tell us that the meat farm has been closed, and the owner signed an agreement to stop raising dogs for food "and move into a permanent, humane trade in crop farming."
