Debra Alfarone

Debra Alfarone is an award-winning, Emmy-nominated TV journalist and WUSA 9's weekend evening anchor. Debra covers everything from breaking news to crime to inspiring stories of people making a difference.

Before coming to WUSA 9, Debra worked in New York City at PIX 11 News, the CW affiliate, where she was the first reporter on the scene of the discovery of the ten Gilgo Beach bodies thought to be the work of a Long Island serial killer. She also won awards for her coverage of the 2008 financial meltdown while working in Hartford, CT at the NBC affiliate, WVIT-TV.

Debra originally planned a career in finance. After graduating from college, she worked on Wall Street. She also worked in the World Trade Center, and her business card with that address is among her most valued possessions.

The events of 9/11 led her to leave the financial world and pursue her dream of "telling stories that need to be told."
Debra's known for her conversational and creative storytelling style, and her immersion in social media. If you have a problem or an issue in your neighborhood, tweet her at @DebraAlfarone.
