WASHINGTON -- DC Police Department's Internal Affairs Bureau are launching an investigation into an officer-involved shooting in Southeast.
Police said the shooting happened around 3:53 a.m. Sunday morning in the 500 block of Alabama Avenue.
Officers were called to the scene for the report of a suspicious vehicle by a community member. Police saw a car matching the description and pulled the driver, Donald Willis, of Southeast, over.
At some point during the incident, an officer discharged his weapon and Willis fled the scene, according to police. Willis later walked into a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Willis was arrested and charged with Assault on a Police Officer, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, and Fleeing from a Law Enforcement Officer in a Motor Vehicle, police said.
The officer involved was placed on administrative leave --which is standard MPD policy.
The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact MPD at (202) 727-9099.
