Dog reunited with owner after being stolen at gunpoint

Sophia Radich was walking her dog when two people chased her down and pointed a gun in her face, doorbell video footage shows.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — A woman and her dog have been reunited, following a traumatic robbery Saturday morning.

Following WUSA9's coverage Saturday evening, Yana, was reunited with her owner Sunday afternoon. Sophia Radich texted us saying that someone found Yana in Landover.

According to Prince George Police Department, the armed robbery occurred Saturday around 7 a.m. near the 4800 block of Avondale Overlook Drive. Video taken from a doorbell camera shows Radich walking her dog, Yana, when two individuals chase her down. One of them then tries to snatch the leash away and points a gun in Radich’s face.

“We were supposed to go to the beach today. I was walking her so she wouldn’t pee in the car on the way to the beach,” Radich told WUSA9.

Since then, Radich has been spreading the word — on the ground and online — hoping to find anyone that can help her get closer to Yana. And she says it’s been helpful.

“The person who sent me the footage of the actual incident, like the guy pulling the gun on me and stuff, it was through the NextDoor app," Radich said. "She had seen that I had put this, and kind of gave a description of what had happened this morning, and I only have that footage because she was on the NextDoor app, because when I was going door-to-door, she didn’t answer, so that’s good.”

“We were cowgirls for Halloween last year, and we had matching pink cowgirl hats, so that was a good memory of her, but there will be many more to come when we find her, so I’m trying to be optimistic.”

This is a developing story and will be updated when new information becomes available.
