WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A teenage boy is in custody after police say he tried to abduct a woman and pull her into the woods, but was stopped by a passerby. The 16-year-old Woodbridge boy faces several charges including attempted rape.
It all unfolded just after noon on Sunday. Prince William County Police responded to the area of Blackburn Road and Delaware Drive to investigate an abduction and assault. The victim, a 21-year-old woman, told officers someone she didn't know was following her while walking along Blackburn Road. The woman told police, the stranger grabbed her from behind and assaulted her, then attempted to drag her into a nearby wooded area.
Someone driving by saw what was happening and stopped to help. The boy and the woman separated, and the boy ran away. The woman flagged down an officer who was quickly able to bring the boy into custody.
The 16-year-old boy, who was not identified by police because of his age, was arrested and charged with abduction with intent to defile, attempted rape, assault and battery, and public intoxication.
He is being held at a juvenile detention center pending a court appearance.
