GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A woman is facing charges after police say she tried to rob two McDonald's drive-thrus in Gaithersburg in less than 30 minutes.

According to the Montgomery County Department of Police, 41-year-old Carrie Lynn Nelson is charged in two separate attempts to rob fast-food restaurants.

Investigators say both attempts happened on Sunday afternoon. Around 3:30 p.m., Nelson reportedly visited a McDonald's on Quince Orchard Boulevard. Detectives claim Nelson drove a gray Jeep Cherokee into the drive-thru with a handgun on her lap. When the worker came to the window, Nelson allegedly announced she was robbing the fast-food restaurant and motioned toward the gun.

The worker then closed the window and Nelson drove away without any food or cash.

Less than 30 minutes later, police received word of a similar attempted robbery at another McDonald's.

Nelson reportedly left the first attempted robbery to try again at a McDonald's on Montgomery Village Avenue, less than three miles away. Investigators say Nelson once again went through the driver-thru and announced the robbery with the gun on her lap.

Again, the worker closed the window and Nelson drove away empty handed.

Officers later saw Nelson's Jeep Cherokee, pulled her over and took her into custody a short time later.

Nelson has been taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where she is currently being held without bond.
