Woman hurt after alleged sexual assault on Metro train

The man accused of the crime was stopped at another Metro stop a short time later, police said.

ARLINGTON, Va. — A sexual assault that happened aboard a Metro train left a woman injured in Arlington late Monday night.

Officers with the Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD) responded around 10 p.m. to a report of a sexual assault that happened on a train near Virginia Square-George Mason University Station. The woman was taken to a local hospital to be treated for her injuries, that are said to not be critical, and is expected to be recover.

The person accused of the crime, described only as being a man, was stopped by MTPD officers at Metro Center Station, in Northwest D.C. a short time later. By Metro train, the two stops are around a 15-minute commute apart.

The investigation into the sexual assault case is active and ongoing.
