MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — Police are investigating after a woman selling flowers along the roadway was dragged by a driver who was trying to rob her in Montgomery County Sunday afternoon.
According to Maryland State Police, the attempted robbery and assault happened shortly after 3 p.m. on the exit ramp from I-495 East to New Hampshire Avenue South.
Investigators say a 64-year-old woman was selling flowers along the road when an SUV driver called her over after traffic had stopped on the ramp. The people inside the car reportedly pretended to be interested in buying flowers before grabbing the woman's purse instead. When the SUV began to speed away, the woman was dragged, causing her to fall with her purse still attached.
The woman was later taken to Holy Cross Hospital for help and has since been released.
The SUV used in the attempted robbery is described as a darker-colored vehicle with District of Columbia license plates by Maryland State Police. The vehicle was last seen heading southbound on New Hampshire Avenue. Additionally, officers describe the suspects as two men, one of whom was wearing a ski mask.
