Welfare check in Bladensburg turned into a homicide investigation, the man arrested was the victim's son

Reginald English is being charged with first and second degree murder.

BLADENSBURG, Md. — A welfare check turned into a homicide investigation when a woman was found dead inside of a Bladensburg home late Wednesday night.

Prince George's County Police charged a son with the murder of his mother inside of their  Bladensburg home. Reginald English, 51, was charged Wednesday evening with the murder of his mother, 72-year-old Lorena Royster.

Officers with the Bladensburg Police Department responded to 53rd Place, off of Annapolis Road, around 11:15 p.m., on Tuesday after a call for a welfare check. Upon arrival they found Royster inside an apartment suffering from what police described as trauma to her body. Investigators have not provided more specifics.

She was pronounced dead at the location.

Detectives are working to establish a motive behind what happened. English is being charged with first and second degree murder.

Bladensburg Police say officers with the Prince George’s County Police Homicide Unit responded to the location as well, and they are now the primary agency in charge of the investigation.
