WASHINGTON — A woman has been taken into custody after she bit a Capitol Police officer Friday morning, police said.

United States Capitol Police (USCP) report officers approached a woman who appeared agitated and was carrying a baseball bat along First Street Southwest, just west of the U.S. Capitol building around 9:30 a.m.

Police said the woman was not cooperative with the responding officers, and started yelling at them. When she raised the bat, the officers tried to take it. That's when the woman became combative and bit one of the officers, USCP said in an incident report.

The woman, identified as 25-year-old Olivia Romano was taken into custody for the incident. Charges against Romano are pending, according to Capitol Police.

Additional details about what led to the confrontation were not immediately available.
