PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — A Manassas woman was in jail Tuesday night for allegedly trying to run over a police officer.

After receiving calls on that a woman had been trying to take someone's car without their permission on the 10400 block of Butterfield Street.

Family members told Prince William County police that Jessica Rivera-Vanegas had driven off with the car. Then, when officers tracked her down and tried to pull her over, she allegedly ignored officers.

Instead, police said Rivera-Vanegas drove the car toward officers apparently trying to run them over. A Prince William County police officer who was in the direct path of the car was able to jump out of the way before the car hit him or her.

Then, a chase. Police got back inside their squad car and followed Rivera-Vanegas as she drove into two other cars. Eventually, once the allegedly stolen car became inoperable the Manassas woman tried to run away.

Officers were able to catch up with her and arrest her.

Rivera-Vanegas has been charged with attempted malicious wounding, eluding, hit and run and driving without a license.
