VIDEO: Stolen truck used to crash into Giant Food store, thieves repeatedly hit ATM in hopes of getting cash

The crew left without any money and without the truck after it stalled in the store's parking lot.

GERMANTOWN, Md. — Police are searching for a group of people they say drove a truck into a Germantown grocery store early Monday morning in an attempt to steal an ATM.

According to the Montgomery County Department of Police, officers were called to the Giant Food store in the 18300 block Leaman Farm Road for reports of a burglary.

Upon arrival, police learned three men forced their way into the store by driving a truck through the main entrance just before 4:30 a.m.

Surveillance video captured the moment the truck barreled through the entrance. Once inside, the men got out of the truck and tried to open an ATM. Unable to open the ATM, the men got back into the truck and drove through the store, hitting the ATM several times. Investigators say the men were trying to get the cash.

After several unsuccessful attempts, the men returned to the truck and left without taking any money or property from the store.

However, police say the truck then stalled outside the store and the attempted burglars left it in the parking lot, ultimately leaving with less than they started with.

Detectives later learned the green Dodge Ram 1500 abandoned in the parking lot was previously stolen in Germantown.

The three suspects have yet to be apprehended.
