HERNDON, Va. — A man was shot multiple times at a shopping mall in Virginia Sunday night.
Herndon Police were called to the parking lot of Worldgate Shopping Centre around 7:40 p.m. Sunday night for a victim with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body and lower extremities. Officers gave the man aid until he could be transported to a nearby hospital. He underwent surgery and is now in stable condition.
An officer on patrol in the area had heard the gunshots and, as he got closer, he saw a vehicle speed out of the shopping center. He followed the speeding vehicle on Dulles Toll Road but lost sight of it at some point.
Police have not said whether the shooter and victim knew each other. A press release Monday morning stated that police would not be releasing any suspect or vehicle information while the investigation is ongoing. However, about an hour later, the police department identified the wanted man as 25-year-old Mohamed Abdalla.
On Monday night, police confirmed that Abdalla had been arrested. He is charged with four felony counts of malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of felony, and two counts of abduction.
The shopping mall is located just minutes away from Dulles International Airport, and neighbors an airport hotel, the Washington Dulles Marriott Suites.
