FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — A Virginia man is in jail this Thanksgiving after he stabbed a family member on Sunday.  Jaydon Mathew Staples was arrested around 8:30 a.m. after he called police to tell them he had stabbed his mother's boyfriend.

When Fredericksburg Police arrived in the 1100 block of Townsend Boulevard, they noticed Staples was flagging them down. They detained Staples, who cooperated with the responding officers and surrendered the knife to them.

Backup arrived and entered the apartment, where they found a man suffering from severe injuries to his lower abdomen. The man was taken to an area hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. Police say the man is recovering, but his current condition is not known.

Circumstances surrounding the stabbing were not made public.

Staples was charged with malicious wounding and felonious assault. He is currently being held on no bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
