United States Capitol Police find bag with cocaine residue in headquarters hallway

Officials say the area is "heavily trafficked by various contractors, cleaning staff and employees."

WASHINGTON — The United States Capitol Police Department (USCP) is investigating after a bag containing trace residue of cocaine was found inside police headquarters.

According to USCP, the bag was found on the floor in a hallway on the second floor of USCP headquarters just before 1 p.m. on Wednesday, by an officer who alerted a supervisor. The bag later tested positive for cocaine.

The area has been used as a staging area for furniture and supplies. The second flood includes Prisoner Processing, Crime Scene, Intel, and Reports Processing.

Officials say the area is "heavily trafficked by various contractors, cleaning staff and employees."

USCP investigators are planning to further test the residue, as well as DNA testing of the baggie.
