2 men facing firearm charges in Prince George's County after car chase that started in DC

The two men were arrested after they crashed their vehicle in the area of Kent Town Place and Route 202 in Landover.

GREATER LANDOVER, Md. — Two 21-year-olds are facing charges after a car chase in Prince George's County that started in the District after a DC Police officer was shot Monday.

Just before 12:10 p.m., a call came in about a shooting that happened near 7th and Oglethorpe Streets, Northwest. According to the Metropolitan Police Department, one of their officers who was on his way into work in their personal car saw a vehicle driving erratically. At some point, the vehicle then stopped in front of their vehicle, one person got out and shot at the officer's car -- injuring them.

The shooter then got back into the car and they drove off. The officer was able to get a partial license plate and called it in on his police radio, and a car chase soon started. Around 12:40 p.m., DC Police informed Prince George's County Police that its officers were involved in an active pursuit.

The driver crashed in the area of Kent Town Place and Route 202 in Landover. Officers then arrested them at the location, and a gun was found nearby.

The suspects in the case, identified as Rasheed Thorne and William Walker IV, were both charged with two firearm offenses, according to the Prince George's County Police Department. They currently in the custody of the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections.

The DC Police officer who was shot was taken to Medstar Washington Hospital Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries after he drove himself a quarter mile to D.C.'s 4th District Station. He was released from the hospital hours later.

Additional charges may be forthcoming.
