ARLINGTON, Va. — An alarming incident took place on the evening of November 9 when an Arlington resident became the target of an armed carjacking. According to the Arlington County Police Department, at around 6:30 p.m., the man was walking toward his parked car in the 2500 block of Columbia Pike when two masked teens suddenly confronted him. One of the teens pointed a gun at him, demanding the man’s car keys and cell phone. The suspects took the items, climbed into the victim’s vehicle, and sped away.
Police then put out a lookout for the stolen vehicle. Once officer spotted it on I-395 and attempted a traffic stop. However, the driver of the carjacked vehicle refused to pull over, sparking a high-speed pursuit. The chase ended near Shirlington Road, where the suspects lost control, bringing the car to an unexpected halt. Officers moved in quickly and took all four suspects — teenage boys — into custody without further incident.
Further investigation revealed that the suspects had discarded the victim’s cell phone near the site of the carjacking, which was later recovered by officers. The teens now face a range of charges. One of the suspects, the alleged gunman, was charged with carjacking, conspiracy to commit a felony, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, wearing a mask in public, and felony eluding. The second teen involved in the initial confrontation also faces charges of carjacking, conspiracy to commit a felony, and wearing a mask in public. The remaining two suspects were charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle.
