Police arrest teens for armed carjacking in Northeast DC

Police say both a 13-year-old boy and 16-year-old boy were arrested and charged Friday after holding a victim at gunpoint and stealing their car in Northeast, D.C.

WASHINGTON — Editor's Note: The above video published on October 28, 2022 details three armed carjackings that happened in the District Thursday and Friday morning. They are not connected to this case.

Detectives have arrested two teenagers for their alleged involvement in an armed carjacking in Northeast, D.C on Friday. 

Around 5 p.m. on October 28, police say the teenagers approached a victim, who was sitting inside a car, in the 4000 block of Clay Place, Northeast. One of the suspects took out a gun and demanded the victim's car. At which point, the victim in this case complied and handed over their keys. 

The suspects then took off in the victim's car, fleeing the scene, according to police.

Responding officers were able to locate the suspects and take them into custody. Officers recovered the victim's car and the suspect's gun at the time of the arrest.

Police charged a 16-year-old boy of Southeast, D.C. and a 13-year-old boy of Capitol Heights, M.D. in this case with Armed Carjacking (Gun).

Detectives will not reveal the suspects' identities due to their age.

Metropolitan Police say these juveniles are not connected to any other recent carjackings by juveniles.
