Teen sentenced to 35 years in prison for murder at Wheaton Metro Station

According to officials, on May 18, Emmanual Simmonds pulled out a gun and shot Tenneson Vaughn Leslie, Jr. in the back of the head as the teen attempted to run away.

WHEATON-GLENMONT, Md. — The 17-year-old found guilty of murdering another teen at a metro station has been sentenced to over 30 years in prison. 

In December 2023, Emmanual Simmonds pleaded guilty to shooting, Tenneson Vaughn Leslie, Jr. at the Wheaton Metro Station. On Friday, a judge sentenced Simmonds to 35 years in prison for the death of Leslie Jr. 

According to officials, on May 18, two groups of teens got into an altercation on the escalator at the metro station. Simmonds then pulled out a gun and shot Leslie, Jr. in the back of the head as Leslie Jr. attempted to run away. 

Per Simmonds's plea agreement, his sentencing would be capped at 40 years and he would be admitted into the Patuxent Youthful Offenders program. Once released Simmonds will also be placed on supervised probation for five years. 

The Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office said that another teen involved in the deadly shooting was being prosecuted. Their case is being tried through the juvenile court system.
