WASHINGTON — D.C. Police have announced the arrest of a teen accused of being involved in a robbery that reportedly started as a meet-up to sell a pair of sneakers.
According to D.C. Police, on March 17, at 1:40 p.m. the seller and the suspect met up in the 1400 block of Belmont Street, Northwest. The suspect arrived with an additional person, reportedly under the pretense of purchasing a pair of sneakers from the victim. At some point, one of the suspects pulled out a gun.
Investigators say the suspect then threatened the seller and demanded his property. The seller complied and the two suspects rode off on a scooter.
On Wednesday, detectives arrested a 16-year-old and charged him with Armed Robbery. Officers say they recovered a BB gun at the time of the arrest.
This remains an active investigation. Anyone with more information is asked to call police at 202-727-9099. A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered to anyone who provides information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
