Suitland Metro Station back open after police shooting, no injuries reported

Police are still investigating exactly what happened.

SUITLAND, Md. — Police are investigating a shooting involving an officer that forced the closure of a Maryland Metro station Wednesday night. The station reopened in time for the morning commute Thursday.

According to the Metro Transit Police Department, the shooting happened at the Suitland Metro Station and no one was wounded. 

On Wednesday night, at 8:55 p.m., a Metro employee told a MTPD officer that 39-year-old Willie Diante Williams jumped the fare gate. During which time the employee saw a gun in Williams' waistband. 

The MTPD officer located Williams on the platform and began giving him verbal commands, Williams then pulled out his gun. The officer, drew his service weapon and fired one round. Williams was not struck by the bullet. Williams was taken into custody without any additional use of force. 

He is being charged with Loaded Handgun on Person and is being held without bond at Prince George's County Detention Center.
