Stafford teacher arrested for being drunk, carrying alcohol on school grounds

The teacher was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail until he sobered up.

STAFFORD, Va. — A special education teacher employed at a Virginia elementary school is facing charges after being found drunk and in possession of alcohol while class was in session. 

On Sept. 4, officers with the Stafford County Sheriff's Office arrested Patrick West, 38, at Grafton Village Elementary School for public intoxication and possession of alcohol on school grounds. He was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail until sober.

Stafford County Schools released a statement in response to his arrest. Officials said that they can confirm the incident happened but will not comment further.

West was employed with Stafford County Public Schools as a special education teacher. Investigators say the incident was during school hours. 

There is no word on if West will be fired or what repercussions he faces with the school.
