FAIRFAX, Va. — A wanted shoplifter ran from police into a high school in an attempt to evade police Tuesday afternoon.

After stealing a shopping cart full of products from the Fair City Mall, an outdoor shopping mall, Kodjo Banks was found by Fairfax City Police outside at around 12:47 p.m. Banks, 41, fled across the street, where he entered Woodson High School through an unlocked door.

Officers notified the high school and it went into full lockdown, while police set up a perimeter around the school. School security and police located Banks together and he was arrested.

Woodson High School doesn't start for students until Aug. 19, but people were in the school preparing for the first day next week. The school had also just concluded drop-in hours for students to pick up their Chromebooks at noon.

In addition to Banks’ charges from Tuesday, police discovered he was also wanted for petit larceny in Fairfax County. He was charged with grand larceny and obstruction of justice and is being held on no bond.
