Police now say 1 dead, 2 hospitalized in shooting outside DC carryout

There is no word on what led up to the shooting.

WASHINGTON — An investigation is underway in Northeast, D.C. after three people were shot outside a carryout restaurant. One person has died from their injuries, two others are in the hospital in critical condition. 

Investigators responded to the shooting at the intersection of North Capitol Street and R Street, NE at 9:40 p.m.

Police say there were two victims at the scene, both identified as men. One victim was found unconscious and not breathing. The other victim was found conscious and breathing. 

The police department initially told WUSA9 that two people had died. On Thursday morning, a spokesperson said one person had died at the hospital. A second person was taken to the hospital for treatment. A third person walked into a nearby hospital for treatment of their injuries. Police say all three people were connected to this shooting.

The deceased victim has since been identified as 26-year-old Malon Nurse. The two remaining victims are in critical condition. 

There is no word on what led up to the shooting. So far, no arrests have been made in connection to this case.
