WASHINGTON — The sentencing of one of the five girls found guilty of beating a 64-year-old D.C. man to death has been delayed to Jan. 30, 2025. Her 11 a.m. hearing Wednesday changed to a status hearing.
A 14-year-old girl, who was 13 years old at the time of the crime, was originally scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday. The teen was one of five girls, ranging in age from 12 to 15 at the time of the death, accused of chasing Reggie Brown down before kicking and beating him to death in an alley in the 6200 block of Georgia Avenue NW on Oct. 17, 2023. WUSA9 has agreed not to name or identify any of the juveniles involved in this case as a condition to being present at their hearings.
The girl scheduled to be sentenced was found guilty of second degree murder, assault with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit assault by a jury during her trial in November.
The youngest of the five girls, who was 12 at the time of the crime, was sentenced Tuesday and remanded to a detention facility for young people until she turns 20.
Two other girls have already been sentenced. The oldest girl in the group took a plea deal, and testified during the November trial for the two other girls that the group beat up Brown out of boredom. She was sentenced to three years in prison for assault with a dangerous weapon. The other girl who stood trial in November, who was 12 at the time of the assault, was given the maximum sentence she could have received, ensuring she will remain in custody until she turns 21.
