RESTON, Va. — Police have arrested Steve Taehee Ha for a deadly shooting inside a Gold's Gym in Reston Tuesday.
Ha, 43, has been charged with second degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
The gym is located in the 11800 block of Sunrise Valley Drive.
The police department said the shooter and the victim, whose identity hasn't been released, were working out in the same area of the gym shortly before the shooting, but they're still investigating what led to the shooting.
Officials said the shooting appeared to be an "isolated, targeted incident," but it still isn't known if the two knew each other.
Kevin Campbell believed he was the closest person to the shooting. He recalled being about 10 feet away from the victim as he was doing pull-ups when the gunman approached him and fired at least six gunshots.
"All of a sudden you just hear a bunch of bangs," Campbell told WUSA9. "The dude walked up behind him and I guess the guy turned around because he was shot in front of his body and he literally shot him up and down like all over the place. His chest, his neck, and his leg. I looked over while he was still pulling the trigger. I ran behind a pillar."
Campbell eventually removed his shirt as he tried to do CPR as soon as the gunman ran out. Other witnesses jumped in to try to save him including Arman Dorshaff.
"We try to rush to his aid and I'm holding his head and this lady doing CPR told me to find medical," Dorshaff told WUSA9. "We tried to aid him until police arrived. People were calling 911. It was such a scary thing to happen."
"We tried to help and I could see his face," Campbell said. "That's what's going to stick with me. His face as he died."
Gymgoers recognized the victim as being a regular. Neighbors said the gym just opened within the last year.
Police say the victim was taken to an area hospital after the shooting, but he was later pronounced dead.
Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the shooting and are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to call our Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800, option 2.
