WASHINGTON — An investigation into gunshots in Southeast, D.C. early Monday has led to the arrest of an 18-year-old man, police said.
Officers with the Metropolitan Police Department responded to Independence Avenue Southeast, near 17th Street Southeast, just before 2:20 a.m. after a report of shots fired. At the scene, police say they found evidence of gunfire, but no victims or damage to property.
The suspect in the case, identified as Amontae Moody, of Southeast D.C., was found in a nearby residence and placed under arrested. A firearm was also recovered. Police say he was charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm and possession of an unregistered firearm.
The police department says their Real Time Crime Center helped them to quickly examine camera footage that was able to advance the investigation of this case.
The crime center is online live 24/7, and runs out of the DC Police headquarters. It partners with nine federal and local agencies to monitor of 300 CCTV cameras throughout the city with the goal to reduce crime.
