Police: Woman stabbed by man in cowboy hat while she was drinking coffee

She ran out of her bedroom to her living room, 'leaving blood spatter along the house walls, floor, and bedding to avoid being cut further,' police say.

WASHINGTON — An adult woman was stabbed in downtown D.C. on Saturday afternoon, MPD said.

Authorities said the incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. near the CVS pharmacy on the 400 block of H Street NW. The victim told police she was drinking coffee on her bed when she felt something running down her chest that she assumed to be coffee. Once she looked at her chest, "she noticed blood running along her body," she told police.

The victim said the suspect had a sharp object and was attacking her with it. Police said the attack was unprovoked and the victim said the suspect stabbed her.

The victim then said she got up and rushed toward the suspect so he couldn't attack her with the sharp object. She ran out of her bedroom to her living room, "leaving blood patter along the house walls, floor, and bedding to avoid being cut further."

The suspect fled the scene. Police said the suspect is a black male wearing a cowboy hat and blue jacket, a silver shirt and black jeans. Police have since made an arrest in relation to the incident.

Police said this incident was domestic in nature.

Police said the victim is conscious and breathing and is expected to survive.
