DC Police search for man who pretended to be an officer before shooting 2 in Northeast

MPD shared photos of the accused shooter who appeared to be wearing a police vest, badge around his neck and a beanie embroidered with 'think positive'

WASHINGTON — Police are investigating after a man allegedly pretended to be an officer to get inside a home before shooting two people Tuesday.

According to a spokesperson from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), the shooting happened just before 3 p.m. near the intersection of 61st Street and Clay Street in Northeast.

When officers arrived, they found a man and a teenager who had been shot. The two were conscious and breathing when officials took them to an area hospital for help.

In a release Tuesday evening, MPD claimed the suspect pretended to be a police officer to get into the house before shooting the two victims.

Officials shared photos of the suspect, which show the suspect wearing a black vest with "police" across it and a badge on a chain around their neck.

Investigators say the suspect drove away after firing at the man and teen multiple times. Officers are on the lookout for a black Honda Sedan in connection to the shooting.

MPD shut down a portion of the roadway in the 6100 block of Clay Street between 61st and 62nd streets in both directions. Neither vehicle nor pedestrian traffic was allowed through.

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at (202) 727-9099 or text 50411.
