Person who tried to stop robbery shot in the foot, police say

Police are still searching for two suspects in the Aug. 1 incident.

WASHINGTON — A person who tried to stop an armed robbery in Southeast D.C. earlier this month was shot in the foot, and police are still searching for the people who fired the shot.

Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to the 2500 block of Alabama Avenue Southeast for the sound of a gunshot. Once officers arrived, they spoke with two people. According to a police report, the two victims told police two unknown people robbed them of about $200 at gunpoint. The victims had recently taken the money out of an ATM when the two men hopped out of a white vehicle and pointed a gun at the victims.

A third person tried to intervene, and was shot in the foot by one of the men. The person who was shot was taken to the hospital for injuries not thought to be life-threatening.

Police say the suspects left the scene in their car and police are still searching for them. The suspects were captured on a nearby surveillance camera. Video of the incident can be seen below.

Anyone who may have information is asked to call police at 202-727-9099 or text the department's tip line at 50411.
