Parole denied for man convicted of shooting Montgomery County Police officer

After the shooting, Officer Kyle Olinger was paralyzed from the chest down.

SILVER SPRING, Md. — The person responsible for shooting and injuring a Montgomery County Police officer during a traffic stop in 2003 has been denied parole.

Officer Kyle Olinger was shot in the neck during the stop in Silver Spring on Aug. 13, 2003, which resulted in a severed spinal cord that left him paralyzed from the chest down. Despite his injuries, he continued to show resilience until his passing on April 18, 2019.

Terrence Green, the person responsible for shooting, was sentenced to life in prison, plus 20 years, for his crime.

On Tuesday, Chief Marcus Jones and Officer Olinger's widow, Jeana, appeared before the Maryland Parole Commission to advocate on Olinger's behalf. In a statement, Chief Jones said, "The crime he committed against the late POIII Kyle Olinger was so destructive that Green should serve out the remainder of his sentence. Green’s actions resulted not only in Officer Olinger’s death but resulted as well in 15 years of torment suffered by Officer Olinger and his family."

The Montgomery County Department of Police says they support the decision made by the Maryland Parole Commission.
