Police search for people who broke in to Northwest DC home

Homeowners were inside at the time, police said.

WASHINGTON — Police in D.C. are asking for the public's help to find two people caught on camera breaking into a home in Northwest earlier this month.

Investigators say the burglary happened in the 3700 block of University Avenue Northwest, near the Reeves Athletic Complex, on Oct. 6 at around 3:40 a.m. Surveillance camera video shows two people in masks and hoods approach a home from the driveway. One of the people checks car door handles before moving on to the home's front porch.

Police say the two people seen in the video entered the home and took off with property, but did not say what was taken. The homeowners were inside at the time of the break-in.

So far, no arrests have been made in this case. Anyone who recognizes the people in the video is asked to contact the Metropolitan Police Department at 202-727-9099 or text the department's tip line at 50411.

The police department is offering a reward of up to $1,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to an arrest and conviction.

According to Metropolitan Police Department crime stats, there have been 868 reported burglaries in the District so far this year. That is exactly the same amount as this time last year.
