WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A woman and her son are facing charges Friday after police said they failed to take care of her other son with a disability, leading him to die from sepsis and neglect.

According to the Prince William County Police Department, 32-year-old Jeremy Hall Thompson lived with cerebral palsy, which made him immobile.

On April 2, medical personnel went to the Thompson home in the 14100 block of Fisher Avenue and found Jeremy Thompson unconscious on the floor. He appeared severely emaciated and was in what police describe as "an unkempt state with open wounds to his body."

His mother, Katherine Mary Thompson, was Jeremy Thompson's primary caregiver and had previously been charged with felony neglect at the time of the investigation.

Jeremy Thompson died on April 15. His body was taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office and an autopsy determined he died from sepsis, stemming from cerebral palsy, and neglect.

His brother, Jonathan Lee Thompson, also lived in the home and helped take care of Jeremy Thompson. Police said that makes him another responsible party.

The mother and son were arrested on Friday. Both are charged with felony homicide and abuse and neglect of a vulnerable adult.
