WASHINGTON — The family of the teen shot and killed at the Brookland-Catholic University Metro station say they are still processing their loss but hope to get justice for 14-year-old Avion Evans.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, around 4 p.m. Thursday, a group of teenagers were involved in an altercation on the Metro station platform. At some point, a suspect who was not involved in the altercation pulled out a gun and shot Avion. He died at the Metro station.
Less than a week later, a 16-year-old appeared in court for his alleged role in Avion's death.
Avion's family was not in the courtroom Tuesday but WUSA9 spoke with them outside the courthouse.
“I was looking for justice for my son," said Avion's mother India Wells. She hopes the teen accused of killing her son will be tried as an adult.
“Nothing is going to bring my baby back. So, it’s a start. I’m praying for all the families out there, you know mothers and fathers in this situation," she said. "I’m glad something has transpired.”
The unidentified teen is scheduled to appear back in court later this week.
