Maryland man given 70 years after killing mother and daughter in front of baby

The 3-month old baby survived the shooting, after the baby's aunt having just been shot in the face was able to carry him out of the apartment and call the police.

WASHINGTON — After shooting and killing his 3-month old baby's mother and grandmother, a Maryland man was sentenced to nearly 70 years in prison Friday. The baby's aunt was hurt in the shooting but survived a shot to the face.

In July, Keanan Turner, 35, of Forestville was found guilty in July of First-Degree Murder for killing Ebony Wright and her mother Wanda Wright, shooting both of them in the head inside their Southeast D.C. apartment. Turner was also convicted of Assault with Intent to Kill for shooting Ebony Wright's sister, Wanda Wright's daughter, in the face.

"(Turner) asked (Ebony Wright) to terminate the pregnancy and when she declined he stopped speaking to her," D.C. Superior Court documents from July read. "After giving birth, Ebony Wright filed a custody and child support lawsuit against the defendant."

Turner lit the apartment complex on fire after the shooting and was convicted for arson in addition to the murders.

"Prior to leaving the apartment, (Turner) lit the custody paperwork on fire in an attempt to kill the child," D.C. Superior Court documents read.

The 3-month old baby boy survived the shooting and the fire, after the baby's aunt having just been shot in the face was able to carry him out of the burning apartment and call the police.

The deadly shooting happened in 2021, while Turner visited his newborn son for the first time on Good Hope Court in Southeast D.C., where the baby had been living with his mother, aunt and grandmother.

After the shooting, Turner tried to remove the Ring doorbell camera but instead captured a picture of an arm tattoo that MPD used to identify him as a suspect.
