Manassas mother arrested on felony child neglect charges after 2-year-old son shoots himself

A Manassas woman wanted in connection to a shooting involving her toddler on Oct. 26 was charged Tuesday after turning herself in to police.

MANASSAS, Va. — A Manassas woman turned herself in Tuesday after police issued warrants for her arrest for her involvement in a shooting that left her 2-year-old son wounded.

Prince William County Police arrested and charged Christalle Phillips Moat, 39, with felony child neglect for her involvement in the following incident.

On Oct. 26, police say they were contacted by Child Protective Services after a mother, later identified as Moat, brought her 2-year-old son to an area hospital with a gunshot wound that was not life-threatening.

Officers then responded to a home located in the 7600 block of Monitor Court in Manassas to investigate the shooting. Initial investigation revealed earlier that day a shot was fired inside the home.

Further investigation revealed Moat's 2-year-old son had shot himself in the hand after being left unattended with a gun.
