Man wanted shot by Virginia deputies

Lawrence Toler then pointed a gun at one of the deputies. But before he could shoot, deputies opened fire on Toler striking him multiple times.

VIRGINIA, USA — A man is in the hospital with life threatening injuries after being shot by police. 

On Saturday, deputies with the Spotsylvania County Police department tried to arrest a wanted man during a traffic stop at a gas station. Lawrence Toler was at a gas station on Plank Road just before 9 p.m. when deputies walked up to his car.

In an attempt to get away, Toler backed his car into the deputies patrol car. He then pointed a gun at one of the deputies. But before he could shoot, deputies opened fire on Toler striking him multiple times. 

A bystander standing outside of the gas station was also shot by police. The bystander was a man, whose identity has not been released. He was taken to Mary Washington Hospital with minor injuries and later released. 

Toler however, was also taken to Mary Washington Hospital with life threatening injuries and remains there. 

No word if the deputies who shot Toler will be placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues.
