13-year-old arrested for groping UMD student walking on campus

At this time, the university is offering safety tips and resources.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Police have arrested a 13-year-old boy in connection to a groping case on the University of Maryland campus last month. Police had previously released photos of the boy, but have removed those photos upon learning of his age.

The assault was reported on the University of Maryland campus on Sept. 5.

Just after 11 a.m., a woman reported to police that she was walking along College Avenue, near the intersection of Princeton Avenue and College Avenue, when the boy approached her and began asking questions. During this interaction, the suspect touched her inappropriately. The suspect then ran down College Avenue and onto the hiker biker trail.
The University of Maryland Police Department, Criminal Investigations Unit announced the boy's arrest on Thursday.
