WASHINGTON — A Maryland man is under arrest after he took a loaded shotgun onto the X2 Metrobus near the intersection of 4th Street and H Street Northwest in D.C. on Wednesday.

At around 10:30 a.m., Metro Transit Police said 30-year-old Gerald Evans of Prince George's County tried to get on the bus without paying his fare. A plainclothes officer who was on the bus tried to issue Evans a citation for fare evasion. Evans refused to give the officer ID or information needed for the citation, police said.

Evans was placed under arrest and searched. During the search, officers found a loaded shotgun under his jacket. Later, officers learned the gun was stolen out of Prince George's County. Evans also had an open felony warrant out of Anne Arundel County.

Evans was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, carrying a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of unregistered ammunition, fugitive from justice, and fare evasion.
