Man shot to death in Northwest DC, sparking homicide investigation

Police say no one is in custody at this time for the deadly shooting.

WASHINGTON — A homicide investigation is underway in Northwest D.C. after a man was shot to death overnight.

Officers with the Metropolitan Police Department responded to Hanover Place Northwest and North Capitol Street Northwest just after midnight on Wednesday to investigate a shooting. Upon arrival, they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds.

The man was pronounced dead at the location. He was later identified as 34-year-old Maurice Downing of Northwest, D.C.

According to police, at this time, there is no one in custody for the crime. The investigation remains active and ongoing. 

Anyone who has knowledge of this incident should take no action but call police at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411. The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for each homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
