WASHINGTON — A man is facing charges for reportedly shooting a woman in what police are calling a violent case of mistaken identity.

According to the Department of Justice, 47-year-old Michael Owusu-Sakyi was charged Wednesday in connection to an April 5 shooting that left a woman wounded.

According to court documents, the woman was in the 1700 block of Fairlawn Avenue Southeast when Owusu-Sakyi came up behind her and shot her in the arm. After the shooting, Owusu-Sakyi reportedly told the woman he thought she was someone else. He then told her to call 911 before running away.

The woman was taken to an area hospital for help and Owusu-Sakyi was arrested on charges of aggravated assault while armed.

Anyone with information may contact detectives at (202) 727-9099 or text the department's tip line at 50411.
